Ahhh Miami. When New York winters suck out our souls, you are there to thaw us out.
Month – June (HOT)
Favorite Things – Beach, ocean, cocktails, and crab.
Accommodations: We stayed at The Hall South Beach, and we cannot recommend it enough. It’s located right where south beach starts to shift from the more touristy strip to the super luxury hotels (aka affordable but not trashy). It has it’s own private section of the beach with chairs, a glorious pool, a beer garden in the back, and a low key yummy restaurant called Sunny’s that’s great for breakfast or lunch (get the stone crab avocado toast). And the staff was beyond friendly!
Sunny’s at the hotel….
Joe’s Stone Crab – It’s pricey, be prepared. If you are going to order Stone Crab, make sure it’s in season. It was not while we were there, so I had king crab legs which were delicious!!!! Make sure you order the key lime pie, even if you’re stuffed. You can eat it as a midnight snack like I did!.
Broken Shaker and 27 Restaurant – Both located in the Freehand Hotel, head to Broken Shaker for a pre dinner drink (or three), and then hop across the pool to 27 Restaurant. They grow much of their produce on the roof of the restaurant and it was easily our best meal in Miami. Go back to Broken Shaker for another drink afterwards, cuz it’s that good.
A La Folie Cafe – Yummy french food at the end of Española Way. Charming back yard and a very cute cat.
Drunken Dragon – We didn’t love our food here, but my pain killer was on point, the ambience was cute, and we’ve had multiple people say they liked their meal, so we’d give it another shot.
If you insist on eating near the beach on Ocean Drive, there’s someplace that does like $2 tacos for happy hour. Otherwise expect to pay a lot for mediocre food. But sometimes you just need a giant mojito to share.
Disappointed with the tacos at Tequiza.
The Beach – Duh.
The Pool at Freehand – They have two cocktails that they serve poolside during the day a few small lunch options (if they have cold noodles, get them, they were delicious). You can literally spend all day here and then get drinks at Broken Shaker and dinner at 27 Restaurant.
Pool and Beer Garden at The Hall South Beach – I assume you can go even if you are not a guest. There may be a small fee. The pool gets particularly lovely in the evening, and then you can go enjoy the beer garden in the back afterwards. They have giant jenga.
Española Way – A bit touristy, but very alive and fun to walk around, particularly at night. Right around the corner from The Hall.
Don’t forget your sunscreen!
